In order to have a document notarized in California, you will need to appear in person and present your notary with a hard copy of your ID (no photocopies are permitted). Here are the forms of ID we are able to accept...
US Passport book or card
Foreign Passport, endorsed by USCIS
CA Driver's License, ID or Senior ID issued by CA DMV
Other State Driver's License or ID
Mexico or Canada Driver's License
California State employee ID card
Employee ID from any city/county within California
US Military ID (only if includes signature)
Inmate ID issued by California Dept. of Corrections
ID Requirements
must be either current or issued within the past 5 years of the notarization date
must have an identifying number (serial number)
must contain a photo and physical description
must contain your signature
name on ID must match the name on the document
Unacceptable Forms of ID
Expired ID, unless it was issued in the last 5 years
Birth Certificates
Social Security Cards
Credit Cards
Temporary Driver's License
Any acceptable ID where the name does NOT match the document
